Mixed Media

A taste of things to come perhaps ... this is a piece I made several years ago. I enjoyed stitching this so much and it's still a technique I like to use a lot!

First I dyed the cotton background fabric. Then I got my other materials ready. I painted and manipulated some Tyvek, heated and distressed long strips of sheers/chiffons and cut fabrics. I arranged them on the cotton and attached with machine stitching in a gold thread, then added hand stitches - french knots, seed stitch and fly stitch

    I am very happy for you to use my pictures to extol the virtues of Tyvek (just copy and link!). I love to use Tyvek in my work. Such interesting textures and effects can be achieved by heating, manipulating and distressing this versatile product!

    It is one of my favourite techniques and to anyone who has never tried it before - give it a go. You will have such fun!
